Types of Equipment: Online, real-time, bar-coded machine readable system with online satellites reporting all system activity and transaction data back to one central server system.

The University of Maryland – Baltimore has eight garages with about 44 lanes. The parking system services seven graduate schools and the University Hospital along with major league baseball (Baltimore Orioles) and football stadium (Baltimore Ravens).

Secom Parking System was originally installed in 1994 and upgraded its fully integrated satellite systems to the new 030 controller, adding proximity access, prepay features, ticket acceptors and software features including a debit card reader, time zone violator convert to cash at exit, event coupon system, customized employee data screens and fiber optic backbone.

In June 2000, Secom began an upgrade to add ticket acceptors for prox cards, debit cards and event coupons. Other upgrades included Flay File handoff and admin card security levels and controls for several doors. The last software was added October 25, 2000.

This system was updated to take credit cards in 2015 (needed state approval for credit card use at garage level).

The University of Baltimore garage system has about 6,000 active access cards, handles 1 million tickets annually, and will use 350,000 machine readable event coupons annually.

Additional system upgrades included converting all equipment to brushed stainless steel at five parking garages in 2014.
